Decorative turf became relevant and was associated with social status initially in the European aristocracy.

According to historical records, English and French castles had large turf fields around them, so that soldiers had a clear panoramic view and could easily identify threats.

All this required a large workforce due to the scarcity of technological resources, making its care and maintenance expensive, which was quickly associated with social status.

Today care is much easier with synthetic turf, although it is still considered an added value to the home and associated with social status.
